Baru and Arvien were in the midst of a room with doors at each compass point. But a pillar of fire surged to the ceiling in the center of the chamber. The fire did damage no matter where they maneuvered in the room. Meanwhile the rest of the party was still being randomly hit by lightning, even though most had disbelieved the storm itself.
Drovic air-walked back up to the hemispherical moon on the ceiling trying to find a way to remove it from the ceiling. Varrid fired arrows at the "moon" and Drovic, finding no way to actually remove it also attacked with his dagger. After a few direct hits on the "moon" it stopped glowing and the lightning in the chamber ceased. The walls of flame blocking the exits from the chamber also disappeared.
Arvien had cast endure fire on herself, while Baru headed to the south door. Seglun headed to the west door of the pillar chamber. Arvien opened the door leading north and observed a rectangular chamber, with walls painted to make it appear as if anyone in the room was standing in the center of a great battle between men and half-human tigers. The ceiling was an ornate mosaic depicting a solar disc twenty feet up.
In the center of the room was a life-sized marble carving of a huge white elephant with and ornate howdah perched on its back. The eyes of the beast scintillated and smouldered as if they were fragments of the sun itself. Arvien did not enter the chamber merely waited at the doorway.
Baru opened the doors to the south. The room's stone walls were cracked and broken, the floor strewn with rocks of all shapes and sizes. A gentle breeze circulated, whistling as it blew through he fractures and fissures in the wall. Baru entered and called for the rest of the party to come to him, as it appeared the room was at least safer than the pillar of fire.
The party all raced to the chamber, with Ralom escorting Minja. Ralom began healing the party from the damage caused both by fire and lightning. As he did a fog trickled down from the top of the doorway and filled the entire opening. The breeze increased to a stiff wind, causing dust and small bits of debris to kick up into the air. Most of the party caught a face full of dust and were blinded.
Grunyar tried to move through the fog and found it difficult but not impossible to pass on through. Arvien called for several members to join her on an attempt to dimensional step through the fog. As she did the wind grew into a roaring gale almost drowning her voice. Baru was knocked to the floor by the roaring wind and those party members near the walls were impaled on sharp blades that extended from the cracks int he walls. Decent sized stone were being hurled through the air doing damage to everyone in the room. Most of the party plodded through the fog into the fire and raced to the western doors.
As Baru tried to pick himself up from the floor the wind became so strong that he was lifted off the ground and flung against the wall, being impaled on four spikes, hanging from them ten feet off the floor. Stones and rocks were flying around the chamber, smashing into the walls and doing more damage to anyone left in the room.
Seglun pushed open the west doors into a large chamber, where she could not even make out the far end of the room. It appeared that at least four pairs of black stone pillars reached upward to support a ceiling 4o overhead. Seglun entered, followed by the other party members at pace since the damage from the fire was persistent.
In the wind tunnel, Baru suddenly plunged to the floor as the wind stopped and the spikes slid back into the wall. He landed with a thud, and saw that the fog had disappeared from the doorway. With a mighty leap he rushed out, into the fire chamber and sauntered over to the west door.
As Grunyar and Varrid headed down the center of the next chamber, Arvien studied a pillar which were set with sinister beys-reliefs of half-human feline creatures. The walls were decorated in mosaics that depicted a great metropolis spreading out in all directions.
Flames rose from the buildings of this city, reaching into the night sky and forming cruel faces that laughed at the suffering massed below. Twisted evil-looking people were shown battling great tiger-like men on every street. These graphic scenes of death and mutilation were a sickening sight.
All the party was now in the chamber and Varrid could see a pair of brass doors at the far end. She was headed there when and echoing laughter resounded throughout the room. Looking around she saw a dark figure step out of the shadows. Looking more like a diabolical tiger than a man, the creature smiled in a predatory manner. His teeth gleamed like keenly sharpened knives in the dim light. His eyes glowed with hate as he looked over the party. At last, he fell silent but it seemed that the mocking echoes of his laughter would remain the the groups ears forever.
"Allow me to introduce myself," he said in a purring, casual tone. "I am Arijani, faithful servant of the great Kali and master of this place. How can I be of service to you?"
Grunyar suggested that he die, but that apparently was not an option. Discussion ensued on where the heroes were from, how they entered Sri Raji and there interaction with the Stalkers. When the conversation lulled Seglun charged to attack and found that he could not even hit the creature. Varrid immediately tried to disbelieve the image and said its not there, ignore it. She even walked right through the man to prove her point.
Drovic cast his ball of fire on the Tiger man while Grunyar fired arrows at it. Suddenly an ice storm erupted in the midst of the party. Ralom started to look around for the actual Magician, figuring that this was a projected image. Baru stormed around the edges of the room into the corners trying to find the Sorcerer. Black tentacles erupted from the floor and grabbed on to several of the heroes, most notably Ralom who couldn't seem to escape them no matter what. Arvien stepped into the middle to pull Baru out, but he broke the hold and escaped out the back. Meanwhile Varrid headed to the doors on the far end of the chamber, Drovic joined her and Seglun eventually gave up and pushed open the doors. Arvien summoned two wolves at each end of the room to try and find the scent of a cat. They merely roamed around the room to no avail.
Then the Tiger man disappeared and the Black Tentacles also melted away. The party all headed to the next chamber. This chamber was a square room that was well-lit so there were no shadows throughout; every aspect of the room was clearly visible. A soft warm light seemed to radiate from the ceiling. Four square stone pillars supported the ceiling, 40 feet overhead. Each of the pillars was decorated with tile mosaics of man like beings.
In the center of the room a bubbling fountain splashed softly into a small pool about twenty feet in diameter. The wall were covered with decorative tapestries embroidered with depictions of Sri Rajian flora and fauna, much like that which the party had past through in the jungle surrounding Bahru. The wall covering created a comforting feeling to the room.
The room appeared not to have escaped the passage of time. Unlike the other rooms in the temple, the double brass doors at all four compass points were not gleaming and pristine, but dull and battered, seemingly scarred by numerous blows. The tapestries appeared to be of ancient date as well, and the mosaics on the pillars had lost many of their tiles, The mosaics also appeared to have been attacked by various types of weapons.
The outstanding feature of the room was the pervasive peace and quiet that reigned there.
Seglun entered to the south and found the SE pillar to be horrific. There were evil looking beings what walked like men but had mauve colored skin and the heads of octopi. Four tentacles extended from where the mouths should be.
Grunyar headed north and the NE pillar had tall, pale men dressed in dark, flowing robes. Their faces were deathly white and tiny fangs protruded from beneath sallow lips. A tiny trickle of blood seemed to drip down from the fangs.
Baru headed to the pool of water and found in clear and seemingly pure. Minja was following him closely. Ralom found no magic in the area but the party determined that the SW pillar mosaic matched the NE and the NW matched the SE. Grunyar opened the north door and peered in. The walls and ceiling of the room were layered with gleaming black enamel that scattered dozens of reflections from his lantern. Entering about a quarter of the way to see the far wall, Grunyar found that his boots echoed continuously and the reflections of the lantern became more sinister, and took on the appearance of gleaming eyes. The north wall was covered with a tapestry 20 feet wide and stretched all the way to the ceiling 40 feet above. It depicted a four-armed, female warrior, that was captivating. Grunyar shook his head and backed out quickly. Seglun meanwhile opened the south door which led to a chamber with a rectangular pool at its center. A single brass door was on the south wall. The pool was filled with water that had the fine, shimmering clarity of delicate crystal. Four jets of water rose up from the corners of the pool to splash against the ceiling 40 feet above. Spray from the powerful fountains filled the room with a fine mist and the scent of dew on a spring morning.
Seglun move in to one of the pillars and felt the water jet, which sprayed at her. It seemed pure as no damage was done. The mist in the area coated each hero who entered the chamber. Drovic moved in followed by Baru. As Drovic moved back toward the door he was blocked by some stationary object which attacked and grappled him. No creature was seen but Drovic was lifted up and flew out over the pool, where he was dropped in taking acid damage from the liquid. Baru moved to the edge of the pool to help pull Drovic out. Seglun threw his grappling hook and rope to Drovic. Drovic clambered up and out as he was pulled but as Seglun backed up, she was grappled and dropped into the pool also. Drovic now pulled Seglun out with the same rope. As Baru tried to leave the chamber he was also grappled and dropped into the pool.
After all were out of the pool each hero was able to leave the room. Now they opened the west door. As it opened the party could feel heat escaping from the next chamber. This room was a long rectangular room with six stone pillars supporting the ceiling 40 feet over the party's heads. The temperature was definitely far hotter than it should be. It was not so hot to do damage but the heroes could see that in the center of the room was a golden disc inlayed in the floor.
Arvien was low on spells, and so was Ralom after again healing the party from their misfortunes. A quick rest was suggested and the group decided to bed down in the large room with the pillars of evil.
DM's Notes: Again I will figure the XP after finishing Mahakala.
