As Ralom started to query the group on their knowledge of Illusions, the newly mobile Seglun crept back into the statue room and headed for the axe wielding statue. She moved right up to it and again touched the stone of the statue.
The old man animated and swung the axe with might force downward onto Seglun. Seeing the animated statue move Baru rushed over to Seglun's side to start his own battle. Arvien let loose magic missiles and Drovic, convinced that the creature was not real, chanted "I don't believe, I don't believe!" Opening his eyes again Drovic saw the statue in its natural pose in the alcove. "It is an illusion, It's not real," he shouted at the top of his lungs.
Seglun and Baru attacked finding that the damage done was less than expected. Ralom entered the chamber and heeding Drovic, took a good look at the battle. He also saw the statue in its normal pose. Grunyar was moving toward the western doors, when Seglun and Baru moved away from the crushing axe blows. Varrid headed toward the western doors also, since she had not examined them yet.
The old man moved out of the alcove directly next to Grunyar, who pleaded, "It's not real, I refuse to believe." When he looked again the statue was standing in the alcove. Varrid reached the brass doors. They looked exactly like the other doors the party had seen thus far, no handle, no lock or bars, but they didn't move. From Seglun's point of view the statue moved right on top of Grunyar and attacked her. The battle continued for a short time but soon all the party had figured out that the statue attacking was just an illusion. This did nothing to salve the wounds that Baru and Seglun had taken though.
Ralom decided to investigate the path the group had used to enter the temple. The jaws had slammed shut so Ralom went to see if he could figure out the mechanism. As he made his way to the open brass doors leading to the stairs out, he ran smack into a solid wall. He still saw the jaws of the tiger but he knew he was no where near those doors yet. Feeling and searching the invisible wall he perceived that the image of the jaws was an illusion. But upon that discovery he saw a stone wall closing off the room from the outside. No mechanism or latch could be found. It appeared that the party was sealed off inside the temple.
The whole party gathered in the statue room, where they had to stop Seglun from touching the final statue of the old man with a spear and shield. When they shut the doors to the entry hall, Baru easily pushed open the doors to the next chamber.
Before them was a vast chamber stretching into the distance at least 70 feet, the width was about 60 feet. Ten square pillars of stone set with ornate traces of silver ran into the air, past a balcony some 20 feet overhead, and on to merge with a ceiling 40 feet above the floor of the chamber.
The walls of the chamber were covered with gleaming black tiles and mosaics that made it look as if they were standing on a hill in the center of a low sprawling city. The ceiling was painted black and studded with gems so that the entire place had a look of peaceful night. A large bronze hemisphere was set in tht center of the ceiling, radiating alight that looked like that of a full moon.
So fine was the artistry of this place that it was not hard to imagine a gentle breeze blowing past and the sound of crickets hanging in the air.
Minja noted, "That looks like a moon but Sri Raji does not have a moon."
Seglun headed toward the far end of the room, where she found brass doors on the west wall. Grunyar was examining the balcony, there was an opening about 20 feet across and 70 feet long in the ceiling of the lower chamber. Under the remaining area the ceiling was 20 feet high. Ralom detected magic and found nothing out of the ordinary. Baru said the evil was rampant here also. Arvien was the last to enter and she closed the brass doors behind her, this seemed to be required to open the next doors.
Gradually the air had brown heavier since the group entered the room . The atmosphere carried a sense of looming power, just as it did before a tremendous storm. Even as the group watched, the sparkling sky overhead was obscured by thick clouds the color of charcoal. The darkness of the room was shattered by a blinding flash of lightning; a deafening clap of thunder slammed each member of the party to the floor. Driving rain burst from the clouds, instantly drenching the party.
Seglun stood up and moved toward the doors, where a wall of fire appeared blocking access and delivering heated fire damage to her. Grunyar move to a pillar and took out his rope and grappling hook. Arvien headed to the doors she had just shut where a wall of fire also appeared.
Lightning flashed and hit Grunyar and Baru. Seglun moved to use her rope and grappling hook also. Minja crawled behind a pillar trying hide from the lightning.
Seglun and Grunyar started climbing the ropes. Varrid said this storm is an illusion and saw the driving rain disappear. Arvien sent Summergale to scout the balcony, she indicated that no enemy was seen on the balcony. Arvien also sensed that the storm was an illusion. Drovic also found the storm to be false and started to air-walk to the balcony. The lightning struck again, hitting Seglun, Grunyar and Arvien. Arvien screamed "I thought this as gone, but the damage was real."
The party all clambered up to the balcony, some being hit by lightning all during the climb. The balcony had brass doors leading west but as Seglun approached them a wall of fire appeared blocking the way. The lightning continued appearing to come from the silver filigree in the pillars.
Summergale, immune to fire damage, tried to push open the doors on the balcony but was unable to move them. Arvien sent her to the lower level where she easily opened the doors.
Arvien used dimensional step to move through the wall of fire to the next chamber, and Baru slid down and rope and ran through the fire, taking damage a large amount of damage that his resistence had a small reduction to.
Unfortunately the next chamber with doors at each compass point also had a pillar of fire in the center of the room, surging upward from circular pit 30 feet in diameter. Baru and Arvien both took damage from the pillar of fire.
DMs Notes: I will determine the XP from the whole Mahakala encounter at the end.
