Drovic thought he didn't have a prayer when the Goblyn kept gnawing on his face, even trying to breathe was difficult. Two Goblyns were attempting to wrap up Petar in their net, when Petar suddenly appeared dazed for a moment and then let loose a flaming sphere that rolled into on of the Goblyns caught in the web. Petar appeared shocked at this sudden fortunate turn.
The web caught on fire from the flaming sphere even though it had little effect on the Goblyn. Meanwhile Ralom raced to cure damage that Drovic had taken, Varrid killed her Goblyn and the party started to take control of the battle. Arvien called the Dire Boar into being and then cast a fireball on top of her web. This merely accelerated the burning which killed several of the Goblyns and severely burned several others.
Seglun found herself being feasted upon by another Goblyn, which she shortly dispatched. Grunyar kept firing arrows into the fray, Goblyn and Worgs fell to his administration. Baru used his size to continue battering the foes around him. Madame Ursula pulled Petar from out of the net as the Goblyns died. She started questioning him about the show of magic he had displayed. Finally all the enemies fell to the weapons of the heroes and Ralom set about healing the damage before the party settled down for the evening.
Madame Ursula declared the heroes as "friends of the Vistani" and offered to mark them as such. This was a pair of gold rings set into the pierced lobe of their left ears. Giorgios so marked would not necessarily be welcomed into Vistani camps, but neither would they be cheated or robbed by the wandering gypsies. Ralom also set about asking Petar about his magic display. Petar was surprised by what had happened. "It never occurred previously," he stated. "I was under attack and then I saw in my mind how to strike back at the enemies. So I just continued the thought and the fire sprung into being." Varrid speculated that the ability might be related to his red hair, "The Goblyns certainly seemed more interested in you than any of the rest of us." Ralom queried Ursula regarding the Goblyns, did she know what they were? Have you seen them before? Neither Ursula nor Petar had any idea of what the creatures were or where they came from.
Before settling down for the evening Madame Ursula offered to "throw the bones" for the party. When the group accepted her invitation she entered the vardo and returned with dikesha which she rolled thrice as she entered a trance like state.
"Beware the beast beloved of the priest"
"Tis better to join the Hunt than to be its prey"
"Your fate lies in the castles three"
At this Ursula came out of her trance like state and offered to draw a map from the vision given her.
The map showed Forlorn surrounded by Kartakass, Bluetspur, Barovia and Gundarak. Ursula noted that she and Petar had been traveling in Kartakass before entering Forlorn. The party decided to start reading their manuals or tomes and spent an uneventful night. It started raining at night and did not stop the next day, lightning flashes were seen all day. The rain continued without end. Using the camp as a base scouting parties headed out in different directions each day. On the third day it was found that a stand of unblighted forest was north of their camp. Packing up the party headed to this greener pasture. On the first night, a distant buzz intruded upon the silence of the forest. After a minute it grew louder, and Varrid could tell it was a chant, coming from not too far to the north. Varrid headed to the sound moving as silently as possible, Seglun started to follow but was dissuaded by Varrid from coming too close.
As Varrid closed in on the chanting, she saw through the thick foliage, twelve hooded figures holding hands and standing in a circle. As she watched, the changing increased in volume and speed. As one, the figures turn and began to run in a clockwise direction, still holding hands.
Suddenly, an eerie howl erupted from the center of the circle. Glowing green eyes appeared, and in a few more seconds, the body of a hound formed around the eyes. The animal sprang from the circle and stood there, sweeping its head from side to side, growling impatiently. Varrid moved back from her close perch to a tree, which she clambered up. Another set of eyes began to appear with the circle, and then another hound joined the first, in a matter of moments, nearly two dozen hounds materialized and leapt over the heads of the chanting figures. Then a final figure appeared, that of a dark-skinned man holding a spear and wearing a helmet crowned with horns. He, too, threw his head back, and howled at the night. Then he raised a ram's horn to his lips a blew a note that stirred something deep in the heroes blood. All the chanting figures transformed into huge dogs and the sound of the horn, except one, who threw back her hood revealing a head of bright red hair bound in a long braid.
Ralom, Baru and Seglun watched as the other members of their party transformed into hounds, recalling Ursula's admonition about the Hunt and its prey, they willed themselves to turn into hounds and all joined the Hunt which had soon flushed a large number of Goblyns from the underbrush as it swept across the forest..
DM's Notes: The party earned 2,085 XP for the night and now have 37,557 XP.
