Ogre Attack

On the parapet Grunyar found the medallion that Ticklemop was attempting to deliver to Lord Soth.  He picked it up and figured that the party might be able to present to Lord Soth, if they found him.  The party finished their slumber period and awoke refreshed ready to fully examine the throne room and the mirrors.

Off to the fifth floor the party trooped all trying to determine what or how to approach the throne without dying immediately.  When the party entered the throne room it looked the same as it had the previous afternoon.  A black marble throne, studded with red gems.  On the throne a almost translucent figure, unmoving except its lips which moved soundlessly.  Arvien picked up a shard of crystal and tossed it onto the figure's lap.  It seemed to move completely through the figure and landed on the seat of the throne.  Baru climbed up to the top of the dais and circled the throne looking for secret, or even obvious, openings.   He found nothing of the kind. Grunyar climbed the stairs up to the balcony and looked down upon the room as Seglun moved to the first mirror and looked in.  Ralom once again established that the mirrors, but not the frames were magical.
Seglun saw her own reflection in the mirror but the background was not  Soth's throne room but instead displayed an woodland scene.  Sunlight dappled a forest of trees whose pale green leaves suggested that it was spring.  In the background faint sound emanated from the mirror.  Seglun decided to move on to the next mirror.   Again she saw her own reflection but the background was a long hallway lined with military standards and banners.  A plush red carpet, patterned with swords, crowns, kingfishers and roses, led to a party open door.  Faint sound were audible from this mirror also.
The third mirror displayed a wide hallway at the end of the which double doors stood open, revealing the sun shining in blue sky.  Near the sun, a second light hung in the sky -- a bright red glow about the size of a star.  The fourth mirror showed a narrow street filled with smoke.  Nearby buildings illuminate the street with an eerie red light, and menacing shapes rushed through the gloom.  The scene in the fifth mirror was a wide tournament field.  At the far edge stood several colorful pavilions.  In the open space between the tents, two figures in gleaming armor struggled while others watch.  Beside one of the pavilions lay a large blue shape, some sort of creature curled in sleep.  The final mirror's view was the rooftop of a shattered temple, its walls stained by soot and its columns jagged stumps.  Just beyond the edges of the rooftop, vaguely humanoid spirits swirled in a ghostly dance.  All the the mirrors had faint sound emanating from them.  Drovic moved to the first mirror and placed his hand against the glass.  It was solid, cool to the touch, but there was no apparent effect from touching the glass.  Arvien tried touching the glass with a crystal shard, but that merely resulted in nothingness.  As Drovic leaned in to touch the third mirror he stumbled slightly and his ear came into contact with the glass, he heard the sound of joyous chanting coming from the mirror.  With this new revelation he moved to mirror two where he heard the sound of angry voices raised in disagreement.  At the first mirror he heard the faint sound of women crying and the thud of horses' hooves.  The fourth mirror emanated the clash of metal on metal and agonized screams.  The fifth provided sound of sword rattle as the two figures fought in a tournament display.  The last mirror emanated agonized cries.
Ralom decided that the joyous chanting might be the best available destination, if he could just determine how to enter the hallway in the mirror.  Grunyar suggested using the medallion, which he tossed down to Ralom. Touching the medallion of the mirror had no effect.  Baru listened to the chants and tried to match them with the lip movements of the shadowy Lord Soth.  The movements and and sounds had no commonality.  Varrid watched the lips and while she had no concept of the language it was clear that the message repeated every two or three minutes.  Arvien examined the frame of roses surrounding the first mirror, those needles sure looked very sharp.  Ralom moved to the center of the room and found that he could see his reflection in all the mirrors simultaneously, but each background was as Seglun had seen them.  Arvien stood in front of the first mirror, gazed into it, and imagined walking into the mirror.  The party was aghast as Arvien's body became a ghostly unmoving image.  Seglun quickly looked into the mirror where she saw Arvien's back.  Slowly Arvien turned and motioned for the party to follow as she moved into the forest landscape.
The rest of the party followed the same procedure and found themselves in a sunlight-dappled woods.  Pale green leaves and the smell of sap flowing indicated that it was early spring.  Just behind them , an oval of utter blackness hung a few inches above the ground.  It was six feet tall and about three feet wide but had no depth.
To the right was a clear space, with a road, winding through the woods.  From that direction came the caper of horses' hooves and the creak of a carriage.  In the opposite direction they could hear women crying faintly.  A guttural voice barked out and order, and the crying abruptly stopped.  Seglun began to move in the direction of the crying but the rest of the party headed for cover near the road.  Seglun thought better and joined the rest of the group.
A procession of thirteen knights and a carriage was making its way down the road.  Each man had a long, drooping mustache and wore a surcoat embroidered in gold.  A broad-shouldered knight with blonde hair and a long, neatly trimmed mustache led the procession.  On his surcoat was the emblem of a red rose.  His forearms were bare, one is tattooed.
He held up a hand, signalling a halt.  "The horses are tired," he tells the others.  "We will rest here before continuing."  The knights circled the wagon, from which a beautiful woman exited cradling an infant.  A quick dry meal is prepared and eaten and just as the lead figure climbs back on his steed a scream is heard from the west.  The knights all charge in the direction of the scream, leaving the infant and woman behind.  The party, on foot, slowly follows the horses.   Grunyar and Arvien stay behind.   At this point Arvien has determined that the lady must be Gladria and that the group is a witness to history.  The lady Isolde will be with ogres to the west.  Arvien emerges and introduced herself to Gladira, but who is the infant?  "Your husband is in ethical danger.  He will betray you with an elven maiden unless you can stop the him from winning the battle."  Lady Gladria looked beyond confused and was just about to question the pair when four ogres emerged from the underbrush and attacked Arvien and Grunyar with a fury.  The battle was short and sweet as the two heroes fell under the blows of the ogres.
Meanwhile the rest of the party entered a grove in the forest where they beheld the knights in battle with a dozen or so ogres.  Lord Soth was issuing a challenge to a larger, dirtier ogre.  In the center of the grove were fourteen women, sitting with their hands behind their backs.  All but one looked dejected, tears streaked their cheeks.  The fourteenth, a golden-haired beauty, had a proud bearing.  Varrid swiftly moved to the elven women making sure they were not under any attack from the ogres.  Seglun joined the battle against and ogre, Ralom moved to help Lord Soth against the Ogre leader.  Baru moved up and swung mightily, but errantly, at Lord Soth.  Drovic fired acid darts at the creatures.  Ogres fell to the knights, Seglun continued attacking, Baru, switching gears, now attacked the Ogre leader.  Varrid was attempting to calm the elven maidens as the battlefield became a killing field.

DM's Notes:  In mid battle the heroes have not earned any additional XP.
